William Morris Tree of Life Tapestry

Regular price $167.00

The Tree of Life is one of William Morris's most iconic textile designs, originally created as an embroidered wool portière by Morris & Co. circa 1910 with drafting by his associate John Henry Dearle. The motif features a central, intertwining tree with lush branches laden with flowers, pomegranates, and leaves, populated by birds in flight, often incorporating the mille-fleurs ("thousand flowers") background technique inspired by pre-Renaissance and medieval European tapestries.

Woven with exceptional precision at 80 wefts and 170 warps per square inch, this tapestry delivers outstanding durability and a sumptuous hand. The dense construction uses 20 feet of cotton thread to create rich depth and texture. Hanging hardware is included: a weighted rod for the bottom and a decorative black steel rod with finials and mounting brackets for the top.
